What is the difference between M and MLX?

The key difference between the M and MLX is that the MLX comes with a top board with the programmable LED array and integrated motion sensor (6 Degrees of Freedom). Both the M or MLX have the same footprint of 52x24mm with the MLX having a slighting taller profile of 13mm. The DUO M is […]

What is the effective range of the DUO?

The DUO M/MLX sensors were purpose built as short range sensor. Depending on specific algorithms and lighting conditions the recommended range of the DUO sensor is 0.23-2.5 meters. This can be extended with a smaller FOV and/or external illuminators as well as using different algorithms/techniques for measuring depth/objects.

What is the programmable LED array?

The fully programmable LED Array allows users to “program” the sequences that control the timing, firing and brightness of the 3 IR LEDs. We use custom firmware code in conjunction with an LED driver to do this, not an FPGA.

External Trigger/Synchronization?

The DUO M/MLX both provide 3 pins on the PCB which allow for the following configurations: SYNC_IN – Allows to force camera exposure time with external device signal. TRIG_OUT – Allows the device to trigger external lighting or other devices. GND – Common ground for Sync and Trig signals. More documentation on this functionality will be […]

Can I configure the sensors through USB?

Yes, you can configure the sensor parameters through the DUO API. We currently expose the following parameters that can be updated through the Device API: Exposure (%) – Changes the exposure or amount of light per unit area. (Directly tied to framerate) Gain (%) – Boosts the resulting signal (recommended to limit usage as noise […]

How does the DUO perform in sunlight?

The DUO can act as both an active or passive sensor. When in passive use there should be no problems with sunlight as long as it is not direct. If using active please consider ambient lighting will interfere with the IR lights used on MLX devices. We have several videos that showcase usage in dynamically […]
